Nomination «PIANISTS UNDER 30»

The goal for contestants in the «Pianists under 30» nomination is to perform the preludes from Ivan Sokolov’s «Evangelical Pictures» series.

The competition will take place from 1 September 2019 to 19 April 2020.

The first and second tours are conducted by correspondence (using video recordings); the third tour requires the Laureates to attend the Easter multimedia concert in Moscow on 19 April 2020, at the P. I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (travel and accommodation are covered).

Participation in the competition is free of charge. No registration fees need to be paid by the participants. Any young pianist under the age of 30 from any country can take part in the competition.

\nThe competition is based on a unique multimedia project by prominent Russian modern art figures – composer Ivan Sokolov and artist Konstantin Sutyagin.

Ivan Sokolov wrote a series of pianoforte pieces called «Evangelical Pictures,» which contains 31 preludes, a Recitative and an Epilogue.

Konstantin Sutyagin created a series of 70 paintings under the same title. The two art forms come together in a combined multimedia project called «Heaven and Earth» available at \n zemlyainebo.ru

Performance using a printed score is acceptable.

Contestants can complete their application forms (see below) and send links to YouTube videos between 1 September 2019 and 20 December 2019. The judges will select up to 20 participants who may proceed to the second tour of the competition. The results will be announced on 10 January 2020, in VKontakte and Facebook (links to the groups can be found at the end of the Regulations).

The contestants submit links to videos with the second tour performances to the organizers’ email address: zncompetition@gmail.com, between 10 January and 25 February. The judges will select the 10 best participants – 7 Diploma Winners and 3 Laureates. The Laureates will then be invited to the third tour, which will determine the winner. The second tour results will be announced on 10 March 2019, in VKontakte and Facebook (links to the groups can be found at the end of the Regulations).

An Easter multimedia concert of the Laureates will take place on 19 April 2020 at the P. I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. The panel members will announce the winners and personally present diplomas and awards.

The competition is organized by the «Heaven and Earth» charity foundation.

The laureates will have their travel expenses and accommodations in Moscow covered for participating in the Easter multimedia concert (the third tour of the competition) on 19 April 2020.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION

The goal of the competition is to identify and promote young talented pianists and their teachers; promote creative student activity at musical educational institutions; share experiences and innovative ideas; to enrich the concert and pedagogical repertory with the best examples of modern music.

An important feature of the concert is its accessibility to a wide range of students at musical educational institutions and young pianists. Advanced internet technologies enable participants to attend from even the most remote areas.

HONORARY PRIZES AND TITLES TO THE BEST DEPARTMENTS

Educational institution departments that send the most participants who demonstrate outstanding results, will receive an honorary title «Department of high musical culture» for their contribution to the development of modern art.

One department will also win a special prize: a cordial dinner with composer Ivan Sokolov at the Metropol Restaurant in Moscow, and a representative of the department will enjoy a night out with the author of «Evangelical Pictures.» The time and date of the cordial dinner will be separately agreed upon.

The Mentor Panel consists of all of the participants’ teachers. After the Panel determines the Diploma Winners, the Organizers will conduct a voting of the Mentors’ Panel to determine the 1st Degree Diploma Winners.

COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS

The contest is open to young pianists born after 18 April 1990 and residing in any country.

TIMING AND FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION

The 2nd «Heaven and Earth» International Multimedia Competition for Pianists and Musical Experts will be held from \n1 September 2019 to 19 April 2020.

The First and second tour will be conducted by correspondence (using video recordings).

The third tour will take place on Easter, 19 April 2020, in Moscow, at the P. I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, N. Y. Myaskovsky Hall (13 Bolshaya Nikitskaya St.).

AGENDA

  • First tour\nFor the first tour, the participants may select any prelude from the «Evangelical Pictures» series (with a total duration of 8-10 minutes), record themselves performing the chosen work and upload the recording on YouTube. Between 1 September and 20 December 2019, the participants can complete an application to participate in the competition and submit it to the organizers along with the recording of the performance. Contestants participating in the competition for the second time must choose preludes that were not part of their program before.
    \nThe results of the first tour will be announced on 10 January 2020, in VKontakte and Facebook (links to the groups can be found at the end of the Regulations).
    \nThe judges will select up to 20 participants who may proceed to the second tour of the competition.\n* {:.ml30} Second tour\nFor the second tour, the participants may choose several additional preludes (with a total duration of 8-10 minutes) and send links to a YouTube recording of the performance between 10 January and 25 February 2020, to the organizer’s email address.     \nThe second tour results will be announced on 10 March 2020, in VKontakte and Facebook (links to the groups can be found at the end of the Regulations).
    \nThe judges will select the 10 best participants – 7 Diploma Winners and 3 Laureates. The Laureates will be invited to the third tour, which will determine the overall winner.

  • Third tour Each Laureate will perform a 20-25 minute program at the Easter multimedia concert (19 April 2020) at the Myaskovsky Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory, featuring preludes from the «Evangelical Pictures» series.\n
    \nAt the end of the performance, the panel will announce the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. An awards ceremony will be held.
    \nThe results of the competition will be announced on VKontakte and Facebook (links to the groups can be found at the end of the Regulations).
    \nContestants from previous years must choose new preludes to perform.

  1. To listen to the preludes performed by their composer, please visit the «Music» section of the www.zemlyainebo.ru website. You can also download the musical score and print it out.
  2. All musical scores come with an introductory article by the composer and epigraphs: open.\nPerformance using a printed score is acceptable.
  3. Rehearse the preludes and record your performance.
  4. Complete and submit an application at the competition website.

VIDEO RECORDING QUALITY

The video recording must be of sufficient quality so that panel members can objectively evaluate the participant’s performance.
